Working with children checks

NCAT can review decisions made by the Children's Guardian to:

  • refuse to grant a clearance
  • to cancel a clearance or
  • to impose an interim bar (if the bar has been in force for over 6 months).

For more information, see Steps in a working with children clearance review matter.

NCAT may grant an enabling order to allow a disqualified person (s18) to be considered for a clearance even though they have been convicted (as an adult) for an offence listed in Schedule 2 of the Child Protection (Working with Children) Act 2012.

For further information about the Schedule 2 offences visit the Office of the Children's Guardian website
